I've started getting this msg, apparently at random:

"Windows has blocked this software because it cannot verify the publisher "

The composer of this msg forgot to have it include the NAME of the software. There's a clickable link, "Unknown publisher ". When I click this link, the name that appears is Adobe. Apparently, Windows XP doesn't know who Adobe is. This is just stupid, and it only recently started happening. When I put the message into GOOGLE, I get links to other Forums, whose members mostly talk about ActiveX controls. I'm getting more than a little fed up with these small surprises that XP throws at me. I doubt that W7 and W8 will be any better about his kind of stuff, unless M$oft changes its entire philosophy of software development.

Blocked the software from doing what? Installing? Connecting to the Internet? If so, you can force the installation or you can allow Adobe in the Windows Firewall.

I've been running Adobe for at least 6 years and had no problems. I recieve updates and downloads - all AOK. Currently Adobe9 Version 9.4.3
As Tony suggests - you may have AV or Firewall blocking it. Cheers Neil.

I don't have the slightest idea what the blocked software might be trying to do, just like I don't have the slightest idea what's being blocked, or why.

    OK, understood.
So what are you doing prior to the message?
Is this just a popup message that appeared while you were using the computer or is this message the result of something were were trying to do, such as install an Adobe product?

If a random message, it's the Adobe Updater, which will run automatically at certain time intervals, depending upon the Update settings in the program Preferences. Probably Adobe Reader.

For Adove Reader X: Edit Menu > Preferences > Update.

For Adobe Reader 8 & 9 versions: Go to C:\Program Files > Common Files > Adobe > UpdaterX > double click AdobeUpdater.exe > let it run it's course > cancel > click Preferences.
