    Greetings all,

I have a question that I have been wondering about now for a while.

I have a laptop running windows 2000 and a desktop running windows 98. Both can ping and share files and all that nice stuff. However my windows 98 machine can't access some files on my 2000 machine.

Example: I have a collection of mp3 files on both systems. They are both shared under the folder "mp3s" on their respective hdds. (\\laptop\mp3s and \\desktop\mp3s). Both have full permissions (write with no password on the 98, and everyone and guest with full permissions on the 2000). I load up winamp on the 2000 computer and add a directory, then point it to \\desktop\mp3s (and I did that by going through the network neighborhood) and every song on the 98 loads up great on the 2000 machine. Now I do the same thing on the 98 except point it to \\laptop\mp3s (again through network neighborhood) and only some songs will load up, but about 40 of them won't.

Also on my 2000 system (the laptop) I have a shared folder called "installs" with full permissions to everyone and guest. My friend's 2000 system can go in and read it no problem. But my windows 98 system won't even go into the directory.

Does anybody know of a solution for this? My 2000 can share with other 2000 systems no problem, and can use 98 shares no problem, but 98 systems seem to have a problem with my 2000 shares. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks for reading.

I have also some problems with shares between W98 and W2000 systems. I've read an article saying that setting Browse Master under Control Panels/Network/Microsoft File Sharing/Properties (or something like that - I have localized version of W98) to Off on all W98 machines on your network should help.
I've tried it and I think it works. But I'm not 100% sure as I made some other changes in my network setup.
