I've been trying to install the Sprint U600 USB Wi-Fi device on Win7 64Bit. I've tried both CD, and latest downloaded vers. while installing it in Admin. mode. Also tried using Run cmd in Admin. mode. I also tried shutting down everything in StartUp menu from msconfig. I was on chat for 2.5 hours with Sprint, then another hour with their advanced tech support. Nobody knew what the 1317 msg meant. It occurs when the install is trying to copy the files to the hard drive, so nothing ever gets installed. The msg it gives is the following:

"Error msg 1317: Could not create following dir: C:\ProgramData\M'soft\Windows\Start Up "

Without this install I don't have a phone or internet access. I haven't checked M'soft's website, but this is usually so much faster, and to the point without having to wade thru so much blah, blah!

    Thanks,
    GPL

STILL No Luck! I didn't see a Security tab inside Properties. There was a Compatibility tab that allowed me to check a box to Run As Admin. I checked it, and tried to run the exe but it still got the msg. I also tried running it in Safe Mode, but then the Win Installer won't run. I can't tell you how :mad::mad: I am at M'soft.

Can you check the permissions of the (hidden) Program Data folder - screenshot from my computer ....

Incidentally I do not have the directory you listed .....

    C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Up

    but I have ....

    C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu

    Sorry Pete,

After a good nights sleep and in the light of a new day, I have had 2nd thoughts on sticking my nose in here. You certainly don't need me as a back seat driver. Drop me off at the nearest Starbuck's and I'll be a happy camper.

I really do appreciate your persistent help, Pete. However, I still couldn't get it to install. I made ABSOLUTELY SURE that EVERY STINKIN' acct had FULL CONTROL Admin privileges, since I'm the ONLY one that uses this laptop, and still got the same msg. I SOO WISH I could get this fixed, it would make my life SOO much easier, AND cheaper.

    Thanks,
    George

I'm not sure what else I can say on this, except point you to the Sprint forums - you can't be the only soul with this issue.
