    Most likely,

Follow this Dell page: Welcome to Home User Support to locate necessary drivers for your system.

BTW there is no such operating system as Windows XP 2002 ;)

Went into Home Users Support but found it hard to follow instructions did try but still have no sound!!! When checking under Audio & System it all appears to be there except the System Speaker one which says 'No drivers installed'. I am not quite experienced enough to know which exact drivers to download.

Hi Snowdrop. When you went to the Dell drivers page, is your computer a Dell Dimension 3100? In your System Details you said that your system is a Dell Dimension DV51 but to my knowledge that model isn't listed on the driver download page which is probably why you can't find the audio drivers for your computer.

If I could clarification on this issue it would be appreciated. :)

Evan, hence my request for a service tag, the model number isn't the only issue with Snowdrops details. I do think we should tackle this problem one small step at a time.

You may have already checked these settings, but if not you may want to take a look...

    * In the Control Panel, click the Sounds and Audio Devices icon.

    * On the Volume tab, make sure there's a check in the box to Place Volume Icon in the taskbar.

    * Still in the Device Volume section, click Advanced and make sure none of the devices except the microphone are muted. Also make sure all of the device volumes are set to their midpoints.

    * Still on the Volume tab, in the Speaker Settings section, click on Advanced and make sure the correct speaker setup is selected from the drop-down list.

    * On the Audio tab in the Sound Playback section, make sure your correct Default Device is selected.

    Cheers Snowdrop,

Entering that tag (which does fit with a dimension 3100), and changing category to audio only shows one option. Where's the confusion?

MrBill, we're pulling in different directions for the same result (I was trying to educate Snowdrop). Can I leave this with you or will you leave it with me to avoid breaking more eggs?

So have you installed the only available audio driver, and if so did it work?

Here is your audio driver, Dell Dimension 3100.

Under where it says Audio click the link that says Sigmatel - Driver. Once you download it, run the installer and let the driver install. After its installed reboot the computer and see if you have sound.
