I just added a 3.5" FDD to a new desktop with XP Pro SP3. The FDD was removed from an old previously running XP system. I "guess" the MoBo supports the diskette drive because it has a connector for the flat cable. What do I need to do to get the XP system to recognize the FDD? I tried the Add Hardware Wizard w/no success. Of course I want to add it as the "A" drive. (I have quite a large collection of 3.5" dskts. that I hadn't archived yet when my old system failed).

Have you enabled the FDD controller in the BIOS setup?

    Please complete your system details.

I'm nost sure where to find this option. This is an American Megatrends BIOS
on a MSi MoBo. I did look but wasn't sure where to go or which option to select.

The bios should auto detect the floppy drive. (most do) You may have the cable connected upside down.

Wildfire was correct. I found reference to "FDD not installed" buried in the BIOS
under "Standard CMOS Options ". Once I changed that option, XP correctly detected
the FDD. Thanks to all for the suggestions.

Thanks for letting us know? Good to see you got it sorted :D

@Tony my reply was a little vague but older BIOS's needed to be informed of which type of drive was installed (5.25/3.5 / 360/720/1.44/2.88) if set to none or uninstalled windows would not see the drive.

Hence my request for system information ;)
