AVG is AntiVirusGrisoft. It is Anti Virus that it covers, not malware.
I used to use AVG for probably 6 or 7 years. Never had a problem. Tried Microsoft Security Essentials and love it. That is an AV program. I also keep Sypbot, SpywareBlaster and MBAM on all my machines and nothing else.

Microsoft Security Essentials includes Windows Defender - antimalware.

I use Microsoft Security Essentials, Spybot Search and Destroy, and Spyware Blaster on all of my machines and so far haven't been infected by any nasties.

I use Spybot SD with Win xp, and have used it with 98SE too. I think Spybot is great.

Be careful not to overload on security...

    Golden rules:

    1) Only have one antivirus software running at any time, you can get away with installing a few but make sure only one is actively scanning (scan on demand etc) at any time.

    2) Never ever install more than one software firewall, chances are you'll lose your internet connection and make your system unstable.

    3) Use your brain, it doesn't matter how fast or how much memory your PC has it still can't compete with your own grey matter, if something doesn't look right or is too good to be true ask yourself "Should I be doing this? "

    EDIT:

Just curious, where the F* is Brackla? I'm from Dundee myself.

    2nd Edit:

Just googled, you have electricity up there :D

thanks for the advice i would probally download, disconnect internet, uninstall avg and install the windows security and then start internet again.

Brackla is about a mile from Cawdor and five miles from Nairn the fastest place in britian.
