Welcome to Broadband. Now watch your Gigs disappear - rapidly. It's so easy and quick to Download you need to ration your usage. Cheers Neil.:D

Thanks Neil & Steve, I have been watching Gigs for years as my dial-up was on a time basis and my Mobile Int. was limited to 1 Gig per month, then you pay through the nose after that.

Not into downloading movies etc. and as far as I know there is no limit on d/l gigs until you get way over then ISP will warn you to slow down or they "may" charge extra.

Probably a similar situation as we have in the UK, capped downloads never really took off (apart from cellular) and ISP's love advertising unlimited use until you go over that unlimit ;). If you do you will get a warning or they'll restrict speed.

From your description of usage though John I don't think you have to worry, but check T&C's of your contract to make sure.

FWIW I'm probably downloading ~9GB/Month on a 20Mb/s connection and my ISP has never complained.

    EDIT:
Just for clarification, that 9GB is mostly spent watching legitimate TV (BBC IPlayer etc) and watching/listening live streaming of Dundee United feeds, Software updates and Linux Distros, all legal :)

What kind of download speed do you have now? I use Speakeasy.com to measure mine (getting 5.75 Mbps at home in California, 20 Mbps at our vacation home in Oregon).

Wildfire: Monthly limit is 75Gb so don't expect to even get near that.

Bobbo: Here in Central British Columbia my download speeds are 5.0 - 6.0 Mbps on both the hardwired desktop and wireless laptop. (Speedtest.net) Upload at .86 Mbps. A far cry from dial-up at 3-5 kb/s and mobile internet at 20 - 60 kb/s. :D

Our neigbourhood was lucky to get DSL even though it was only a short distance away but just our luck several gents that work for Telus, our ISP, live in the same area and also wanted DSL. So they got together and approached the company (Telus) and proposed to them that they would work on installing the necessary lines and hardware when they had spare time at work. Lucky us or we would still be in the dark ages.
