Hi and welcome to the WindowsBBS community.

Can you do Ctrl + Alt + Del -> Task Manager? Check for "Not Responding ".

I would go to the HP website and update the drivers/software for the HID (Human Interface Devices) which are the touchpad and keypad on a laptop (most often manufacturers use Synaptics drivers/software).

Do you have any drivers/software installed for an external mouse (maybe wireless keyboard/mouse), I wouldn't just upgrade those, I would uninstall them and find updated downloads or reinstall the original drivers/software off the CD...IF the mouse/keyboard needed them (they could work quite well without drivers/software installed).

Also check in Control Panel -> Programs and Features (I expect it is the same as Vista, which I run) for software/drivers of HIDs that you might have previously installed and no longer use.

I will try these suggestions the next time I get to that machine.

    Thanks for your input.
