Hi missnow, Welcome to Windowsbbs! :)

Try going into the computers BIOS and check to see if the harddrive is listed as the first bootable device. To enter your BIOS there is a key you have to press to enter the BIOS setup utility. On Compaq labtops the key is normally F1, F2, or F12. Once you get into the BIOS verify that your harddrive is detected.

If the harddrive isn't detected in the BIOS then your harddrive might be going south. If thats the case then check out the harddrive using the manufacturer's disk diagnostics:

    ExcelStore

    Fujitsu

    Hitachi/IBM

    Samsung

    Seagate, Maxtor, Quantum

    Toshiba

    Western Digital

    hi, tq for replying!

ive did all those thing and surprisingly when i tried to do primary disk check, it appear no hard disk exist.

    why is that?

can it be my hard disk already damaged?

Yes it could be. Since its not recognized in the BIOS you should check out the drive using the disk diagnotistic software mentioned above.

Especially considering how your computer just shut off and now won't even boot up normally.

If you already checked the drive using the diagnostic utility then I would try and get any data you can off the harddrive. Do you have a backup of your data?

Did you upgrade this PC to Win 7? Have you tried to get into the bios on bootup to see if the HD is installed?

Your laptop may still be in warranty. Talk to Compaq/HP.

From a couple of Google sites, this laptop either came from the factory with XP or Vista. Not 7. In the BIOS, did you set default settings?

I would keep the labtop but replace the harddrive. You will have to reinstall the operating system and all of your programs again but you should be able to get the computer to boot up again once the new harddrive is installed.
