    E:\WINDOWS\ALLUSE~1\APPLIC~1\GTEK\GTUPDATE\AUPDATE\CHANNELS\CH1\CONFIG' folder cannot be
opened in MS-DOS mode because its MS-DOS name, including the names of any folders it is in,
    is longer than 66 characters.
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

while running scandisk these messages started to display and there were alot
of them. Tryed to let scandisk copy to new folders, but in some there were
already a folder by the same name and would not copy. It also seeks to be
    in the \windows\program\ dir also

If you are running scandisk in DOS, you may be able to run scandisk in Windows to avoid this problem. Try manually starting ScanDisk by clicking on the Start button, then Programs, then Accessories, then System Tools.

To avoid having ScanDisk run at startup, be sure to shut down Windows properly instead of just turning off the computer or pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del.

    Thanks for the response Rick,
But that was the message from windows while running scandisk from system tools.

    E:\WINDOWS\ALLUSE~1\APPLIC~1\GTEK\GTUPDATE\AUPDATE\CHANNELS\CH1\CONFIG
folder cannot be opened in MS-DOS mode because its MS-DOS name, including the
names of any folders it is in, is longer than 66 characters.

    Thanks Michael

This is a problem with MS-DOS not windows, all scandisk is saying is it could be a problem if you use DOS software to access the file.

Set scandisk to ignore the warnings by unchecking that box described in bold below...
