I have set up a dual boot with windows xp sp3 and windows 7. Now I want to clone the windows 7 hard drive and put it in another machine. Does anyone know if this will work? (I do have several licences for windows 7)
Any direction on what I need to do to make it work would be very appreciated.

Extremely unlikely this will work - unless the other hardware is the same.

I've found postings elsewhere that says it works and to use easybcd to create the boot file for the cloned drive. I'll keep looking

You really are wasting your time. Cloning your Windows 7 installation onto another hard drive will work onlyif it's the exact same hardware configuration. Your current installation has all the information (and drivers) for your current CPU/motherboard/chipset/etc.... does your 2nd PC have the exact same hardware?

Let's suppose for the sake of the argument that it is. There are other factors to consider. Is Windows XP & 7 installed on the same partition or different partitions? If the latter, then your windows 7 will have a different partition letter other than C:. How do you expect windows 7 to boot from partition letter 'X:' after you clone it? Not to mention that fact that there are also literally hundreds of places in the registry where it will refer to the old partition and not to C: Are you willing to make such edits manually? Let's just say that even if you have the quickest fingers on the keyboard, you're looking at several hours at BEST. It will probably take you an entire day or two. And what about applications installed on your Win7. They're all going to refer to the wrong partition as well - you better be good with the registry and be prepared to stare the monitor for hours on end.

Thus far two very experienced individuals have told you it will not work. If you really doubt the advice given to you, then I'd say go for it and see what happens. Please don't come back to us crying about how you've run into problems or how you've wasted your time.

Blade runner seems annoyed with me, I'm just trying something new to me to learn sorry if that offends you. Both computers are identical. the windows 7 hard drive doesn't have a drive letter assigned so when I boot up whatever OS I pick is shown as the C drive. I already tried the windows 7 drive in the other machine and it boots like it should and everything installed works, so I started thinking about cloning.
I'm not crying to anyone if I mess it up its back to square one.

I have a PC called Lenovo G550 laptop. I purchased it for about $800 in Febuary 2010. In this package it has a Windows 7 Pro CD inside with a Windows 7 Introduction guide on it. Memory is 3GB and My Hard Drive is 320GB. I did a dual boot with it and it worked so far. You need to read carefully about your dual boot.

I didn't have a problem creating the dual boot, I was inquiring if I could clone the hard drive with window 7 to use in an identical machine

Last year, I use Windows 7 and Windows XP with it because, I mostly use dual boot on my Lenovo G550 laptop preinstalled with Windows XP Pro. You can share your hard drive if it is 1TB or higher in order to share the files with dual boot.
