    Hi eznoh,

    To use Eudora as your mail program:

    To force Netscape to use another mail program, you can either (a) uninstall Netscape, then re-install using Browser Only (Mail/News not installed), or (b) add this line to user.js:

    user_pref( "network.protocol-handler.external.mailto ", true);

    This will open the system default mail program when you click on an e-mail link in Netscape.

    There was no "user.js ". I tried adding it to "prefs.js" but it didn't work.

    Hi eznoh,

    The user.js is a file that you create, i.e., a user generated file. Neither Netscape or Mozilla will overwrite the user.js file. Another perk of the user.js file is that you can edit the file with Netscape or Mozilla open, unlike the prefs.js. The scripts entered in this file will override the prefs.js scripts.

    You must also be mindful that any edits to the user.js file are recorded in the prefs.js file. Thus, if an entry is deleted in the user.js, you will also need to delete that entry in the prefs.js file.

    When you added the script to the prefs.js file, did you close Netscape first? If not, then the script was not saved. Check the prefs.js to ensure the line is there.

    Hi eznoh,

    Two more workarounds:

    With Netscape closed:

    1. In addition to adding this line to your user.js file:
    user_pref( "mail.use_altmail ", true);

    try adding this line also:
    user_pref( "mail.altmail_dll ", "C:/EUDORA431/EudoraNS.dll ");

    NOTE: Your path to EudoraNS.dll may be different.

    2. Add the following to the [Settings] section of eudora.ini:

    ForceDDEForHandlingMailto=1

    Also check your File Types for URL:Mailto Protocol to see if Eudora is listed there.
    Open Windows Explorer
    Click on View|Folder Options|File Types

    HTH,

    Ramona :D
