Hi dolphin. What version of Microsoft Word do you have installed? Have you tried saving the word file to your computer and seeing if it will open there? Is the word file a .doc file or a .docx file?

It would also help if you told us what type of email system you have...and what anti-virus software you are running.

Since viruses and malware can be buried inside pictures...and these can be inbedded into Word documents...there may be some reason why you can't open it while it resides in the email. Download and save the document to My Computer > My Documents...exit out of the email program...and then try to open the document.

If that doesn't work...you can try the things mentioned above.

    JMHO...based on past experiences.

You haven't answered this rather important question ....
PP - that is for PowerPoint, not Word or any other Office Application.

    In Outlook Express .....

Tools > Options > Security - check that 'Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened .......' is unchecked.

Can you open other Word .docs - if so your emailed file may be corrupt.

Can you get the sender to send the document again? I think it may be corrupt.

Ask the sender to put it in a Zip folder and send it to you like that.

    It's worth a try :)

Also...right click on the icon for the document (the one you saved) and check Properties.

Then again...I've seen...AND heard of Norton doing some strange things :(

Do you get some kind of an error msg when you try to open it?

Also...is your XP and everything else have all the latest updates?

Friend knows nothing about zipping anything.
Error: The command cannot be performed because a dialog box is open. Click OK, and then close open dialog boxes to continue.

When I click OK, it looks like it is trying to download something and about halfway through I get this:

The feature you are trying to use is on a CD-ROM or other removable disk that is not available.

Insert the 'Microsoft Office Small Business Edition 2003' disk and click OK.

I am trying to locate that disc.

Do you have Microsoft Office Small Business Edition 2003 installed on your computer or did Word come as part of Microsoft Works?

You haven't mentioned if you can open other .docs in emails - is the file in question a one off issue or does it occur with all emailed Word docs?
