In Windows XP network setup there is a box to check that will display the status of your network connection in the system tray. The graphic shows two monitors for network connection and globe for internet. How do you set this up with Vista. It used to be there but now has disappeared.

Well, in Windows 7, you go to control panel>notification area icons. Scroll to the network icon and select "show icon and notifications ".

Can't say for sure as I've never had Vista but my guess is it's probably the same. Have a look.

It is not the same in Vista. There is no such choice in the Control Panel.
