NET Framework 3.5 updates keep reinstalling

Every time windows boots up I get a prompt to install updates and once I do, shortly after, I am prompted yet again to install updates.

When I install the updates I get a message telling me that some updates could not be installed with the items that could not be installed listed below.

I just cleared a virus from the malware forum and I am trying to get everything up to date. I read a previous post with this same issue but I don't know enough to take the steps without some guidance. Any help would be appreciated.

Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 on Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008 x86 (KB2416473)

 

Use this cleanup tool:

After you run this tool, you will have to re-install all Microsoft .NET programs and updates.

It is a PITA but the fastest way to repair your problem.

This link has links to all .NET redistributable installations. You'll have to run Microsoft Update afterward.

Thanks, I will give this a try. Is there anything I should be aware of, any risk of causing damage to my pc.

 

No damage. Lots of people have had the problem with .net framworks. Uninstall them ALL then start over from the first to the last.

 

What is the purpose of .Net Framwork? Do I have to reinstall anything from .Net Framework? And do I have to install earlier versions or just the latest?
