    Win 7, 64bit.
I have some video clips that used to show a picture from the clip as the icon. I use Media Player Classic (MPC) to view these clips.

All these videos are in MP4 format.

I have tried all the win7 'views' and the folder is customized for Video.

For some reason that i haven't been able to track down, that clip frame has changed to an icon representing MPC.

Any ideas on how to get the frame (first?) back as the icon representing each file??

    thanks,

I suspect that mp4 is associated with MPC rather than WMP which, I guess, would be Windows requirement to show the frame icon - did this occur after installing or updating MPC ?

Do you have the latest version of MPC released at the end of Jan? ....

    Hi Pete,

    MPC version =1.4.1.2834
    K-Lite version = 690 MEGA Pack

Yes, all extensions are assigned to MPC.

I tried K-lite and MPC on 2 other Win7 systems and they do show the first frame
of each file. So, i have to suspect some switch or setting in Win7 which i
    haven't found yet.

    Thanks for replying,
    savagcl

The only other suggestion I have at present is to see what happens if you associate mp4's with WMP.

No change when "MP4" files are set to default to WMP.
I did notice that other file types (AVI, FLV, and WMV)
do show a movie frame instead of an Icon.

At work i have win7 home edition, at home i have win7 ultimate.... Don't think that makes a difference tho.

    Still searching,

Tried the above reg changes and it did work on some mp4's.

I attempted to convert the remainder to a different mp4 format via - WiConvrtVideoConverter and it seemed to
    complete the problem.

There is more than 1 "MP4" format apparently, just have
    to find the right one.

    MPEG-4 Movie (*.mp4)
    H.264/MPEG-4 AVC-Video (*mp4)
    MPEG-4 (MC) movie (*.mp4)
and all have the same file extension......

Thanks for the help, Pete C. I'll mark this as solved.

    Update:
The fix above was temporary. "First frame" would not stay
    permenantly.

I had to install a third party program (like Nero) and then
    the first frame stayed put.

    Now this is solved.

OK, info on how to get the first frame back (Final).
Run Media Player Classic- Home Cinema and use the file>open menus. Select all videos and the frame (thumbnail) will be there
    when u exit the program.

I have no doubt that if you run a video with a different player, the thumbnail will change again.
