    Hi members

As Dos is very useful to handle jobs such as hard-disk cloning using ghost.exe, i had been searching the web to find a proven way to access a pendrive once i have booted to DOS from a CD or Floppy. I next want to read a pendrive that can easily hold various size files without the constraint of size or freely copying at will.

I had been using a tiny file CTLOAD.COM (1995-2.8k) to access a CD rom instead of using in the config.sys Device = ..... which works perfect. The execution involved are
    CTLOAD VIDE-CDD.SYS /D:CD1
    MSCDEX /D:CD1

I would like to do the same for a generic pendrive, so i had been looking at the following:
    aspiohci.sys (2003 49.2k)
    aspiuhci.sys (2003 50.6k)
    DI1000DD.SYS (2005 16.k)
    USBASP1.SYS (2002 37.9k)
    USBASPI.SYS (2004 39.2K)

I then tried the following on the ubsaspi.sys
    ctload usbaspi.sys
    ctload di1000dd.sys

I am look sure this will work, thus I started this thread in the hope to find if any of you have a definite solution to this. Of course i could have booted from a pendrive but that only work in new system not the older PC.

    Cheers!!

    Hi FuzMic

I've not tried it myself but if the drivers would work in config.sys there's no harm in trying them with ctload but why avoid config.sys:confused:.

In case you haven't came across it yet Bootdisk.com has a DOS USB Drivers page which looks useful for what you are trying to do.

    Thanks Fire
Will look at the Dos BootDisk

    PS
But what i am looking at is to find a sure to read a pendrive after booting from from DOS.

    Lastest finding:
In the new PC where USB port are bootable; once we boot up in DOS from a CD or floppy, it will automatically read the pendrive that is already plug in before the booting, without any coding in config.sys or otherwise. Why??

More than likely because of support for it in your BIOS. It's no different than your USB keyboard working to get into your BIOS when you first boot the computer. Windows isn't loaded then so no drivers are really loaded for it either. But it still works. ;)

Depending on how old the older computer is, it may well be that if you plug a USB keyboard into it and boot the computer you'll find that it doesn't work either when you try to enter the BIOS. Was a common thing years ago.

    Thanks Zander

You are right, it has to do with the BIOS but what about the DOS drivers that need to be loaded from config.sys. I say this because, after booting from DOS, to read the CDRom, device=... must be done at config.sys. So in short,l i hoping that someone can point to some .sys that will get it going for the older machines.

In new machines, using MBKT.EXE we can create bootable pendrive, hence this is no more an issue.

Go to the site linked above and do the DUSE method.

Thanks Tony, I overlooked the importance of the link given by WildFire, will look at the downloads, etc and see where it takes me.
