Resolved partition resize and then data loss

    :(Hi. I have a problem with my E partition. I installed a Partition Magic 8.0 to do some resize with my partition, and when I started it, the Partition Magic gave some errors, and changed drive letter from E: to *: . I can't see that partition any mmore in windows explorer. It's not fair, i have more important data on my E drive.
    Appreciate any help!

    Your data has probably been corrupted, you should always have a back up of important data particulary when messing around with disk partitions.

    Can you remember what errors Partition Magic reported?

    You do know that you should be wary of PM 8 with OS's later than XP?

    Sorry that i don't remember the exact error.Now what can i do to make the situation not even worse? Why the data become corrupted? Can i assign the drive letter with DM or other third party tool?
    In addition, i m using XP pro 64, you said i should notice that PM 8 with OS's later than XP, do u mean PM 8.0 will affect the OS, right? Well, maybe i should google more suitable tools for me.

    I should have also said 64bit OS's aren't advisable either, PM 8 is eight years old. Don't use it.

    As far as data recovery goes, I doubt you will be able to recover anything worthwhile without spending a great deal of money on a specialist recovery service.

    Why didn't you follow Pete's advice in an earlier thread and back up that important data?

    OK， just uninstalled the old pro.
    I just google Easeus data recovery tool, free only 1GB to reocver, its scanning, i hope it will work.
    Acronis True Image Home in the earlier thread from Pete said is a trial version, it has time limited, As i said there, i'm just a home user, so what i want is reallly Free tool. Anyway i am just a student from the university and can't afford the cost.
    When i found Easeus, i saw they also have totally free backup tool for me by chance, so just take it. But this time i should recover the data.

    What's that suppose to mean?

    32-bit OS are of no use these days!

    Now, you should never ever use the 64-bit Windows XP. It's a worthless piece of software that was a stop-gap measure so MS had a 64-bit OS while waiting for Vista x64.

    If you want to run a 64-bit (Windows) OS, there's only one choice: Windows 7

    Just to clarify I meant with PM 8, obviously with software suitable for the OS 64bit is good (I even use one myself ;))

    Agree with your comments re XP 64bit.

    Thanks,Arie. Obviously Windows 7 is more popular at present, i will consider that on my desktop. And my lenovo laptop is Win7 OS.

    It is not a point of which is more popular, its a point of which can be used. As I said, Windows XP 64-bit was a stop-gap measure to get a 64-bit OS, there are hardly any drivers that work with it.
