It appears that Windows XP Pro on my Compaq 715 laptop came with CD Burner software but some very strange things I have noticed.
If I burn a file to a RWCD, all is well unless I try to delete it. It will not allow me to delete a file? ANyone have insight to this?
Does anyone here know if I can use the XP CDBurner to make music cd's that will play in a CD player from mp3 files?

XP uses the ISO standard for burning. You can't delete a file. You can only erase the entire CD or replace the file on the CD with a 0-byte one with exactly the same name. This does not reclaim the space, however. Only erasing the CD will reclaim all the space.

You can make audio CD's using the Windows Media Player. However, if you want to copy a CD into the mp3 format, you will need the mp3 addon available from MS for around $10.

I make all my CD's with Nero (VCD, DVD, SVCD, Music, data, etc.).

Make a Playlist in Media Player (or use the automatic media search function).
Right-click the files in Media Player and you'll see the option to send them to CD's. Yes. mp3's work, too. You just won't be able to copy CD tracks to mp3 (only wma) without the mp3 pack.

You can get the Media Player Bonus Pack (not the mp3 pack) for free. This adds a few useful tools, too.
