Would like to upgrade from OE6 to Outlook 2010 but am very concerned about data loss. I have sub-folders within folders and a considerable amount of stored data. For security, will back up the OE message folders before starting the process

I have two tutorials. First uses the import function in Outlook for account settings, internet mail (changes the date/time received), address book and rules. The second uses the OE export function for mail (retains original date/time received) and rules.

Which route is safer or better - import function in Outlook or export function in OE?
    What problems can I expect?

When the OE email folders are migrated to Outlook are they copied from OE
    OR deleted from OE?
    What problems can I expect?

It appears that I can export file folders from OE individually. Using the import function in Outlook can I do the same?

Would it be safer to import OE folders individually from the backup disk to Outlook?

Do I create an identical folder system in Outlook before migrating the email messages from OE?

Look forward to any and all replies.

You can't upgrade OE6 to Outlook. These are 2 different programs. Don't think that it would matter if you imported or exported. If you have a thumb drive, export it to it then import them. They will still be on the thumb drive. Done this many times with Address and also with Favorites if I am wiping a PC completely.

I used the wrong term "upgrade" - tutorials use the word "migrate" as they are two separate programs. Thanks for your response re the import/export question.
