    Hello Folks,

I'm not sure which forum this thread would apply to but I figured I'd post it in Windows 7 because I had this problem ever since I got Windows 7.

Okay so whenever I would play something in Windows Media Player it would look glitchy. Now the band-aid I used for this problem was vlc media player. I never had glitchy videos using vlc. But now for some reason, youtube videos I watch also have this glitchiness to them.

I tried looking into this problem for myself and it's pretty difficult to put into words. The best I can do is show you what I'm talking about

    http://i888.photobucket.com/albums/ac85/vaccar0/glitchy.jpg

That is a screen cap I took of a youtube video so that you can see what I am talking about. What could possibly cause a problem like this? Any ideas on how I can fix this?

I'm pretty sure all my drivers are up to date and everything. I'm stumped on what I can do.

    Thanks in advance.

Hi VaCcArO. Based on the screenshot it looks to me like your computer has some display corruption. If your drivers are up to date and you are getting vertical lines in videos then that is not a good sign. :(

Is the graphics card integrated into the motherboard or do you have a PCI-E graphics card? If the card is integrated into the motherboard you could try installing a new graphics card and seeing if the problem persists.

If you are using a PCI-E graphics card with no integrated graphics on the motherboard then you can try replacing the graphics card with a different one and testing the issue.

    Hi Evan,

Yeah it's weird. When I play videos with vlc it's fine. Only today did this start happening with youtube videos.

I wasn't sure about my graphics card but according to my Inspiron Guide book, It says: Integrated; Intel GMA X4500

I guess I should try to install a new graphics card then? Where can I get them?

Any recommendations for which graphic card to use or should the same one be used? Is it easy to install yourself?

The only thing I've ever really done myself was install RAM lol, so if it's as easy as that, then I'm good.

According to this website, the motherboard is running a PCI-E slot on the motherboard.

If you can install RAM modules into your computer then you can install a graphics card. All you are doing is inserting the card into the PCI-E slot on the motherboard and then installing the drivers for the graphics card. Its very easy.

If you want a step by step tutorial then read this, Installing a Graphics Card.

And this, Choosing a Gaming Video Card for your PC.

Your Welcome. Do you have an idea of what card you are thinking of using to replace the integrated Intel card?

    No idea yet. Any recommendations?

Would I be replacing the card or just adding a new card?

I'm not really a gamer so I don't really need the top of the line state of the art stuff (especially if it's going to cost a lot more), so I'm not sure what I should get.

Since you are going to be getting a PCI-E card you will be disabling the integrated intel card and using the one that you bought instead.

The integrated card will still be available to use but you will have to disable the card in the BIOS before being able to use the new one.

As far as recommendations go I have used the ATI Radeon cards for years and never had a major issue with them.

Since you are not a gamer you could go with a pretty cheap ATI card. This is the card that I bought for one of my computers about a month ago, ATI Radeon HD4350.

Its actually pretty cheap when compared to other gaming graphics cards, plus it uses very little power in order to operate in the computer.

Okay cool. Thanks for the recommendation, I might get that. Amazon also has a $10 rebate for that!

Do you know if that's compatible with my machine? Just want to make sure it's the right one before I make the official purchase.

Yes it is compatible since the card is a PCI-E X16 and you have that slot in your motherboard. Also the power supply in your computer is 300 Watt which is enough for that card to operate. When I installed that graphics card into my newer computer it was also running a 300 Watt power supply and it works fine.

If there are any PCI devices that you don't use such as a modem card that are installed onto the motherboard then you can remove them. This will put less stress on the power supply.

When you install the graphics card it will have a big heat sink on it so you need to make sure there is enough room in the computer for it to breathe and get good air flow inside the case.

Okay the graphics card came in the mail today. I popped that baby in and now I have no more glitchy videos! I hope it stays this way!

Thank you so much for your help, I really appreciate it.
