I have a new computer (HP Slimline S5000 series) and am having trouble working with folders on my desktop. When I open a new one it is never certain that it will stay there; also when I click on the folder icon it is apt to say "Folder is empty" when I have just recently finished putting stuff in it.

Is there a way around this problem?

Creating folders/files on Desktop is a strict no no with me as it complicates the issue if Windows goes down & you have to backup the system to reinstall/repair it.

However, I have not come across any such situation where the data disappears. Run chkdsk on your drive first.

I think I've got the folder problem under control - there's a lag between moving stuff into a folder and its actual appearance there.

So thank you everyone and I guess this thread is concluded.
