Updating Outlook contacts starts dialer

One of the sales reps in my office is trying to update his Outlook Contacts info--adding business phone numbers, fax numbers, etc. As he types in a phone number, it is underlined, and when he finishes Outlook tries to startup dialing for that number. He does not have a modem; all of us connect to the Internet through our LAN and DSL. How can I stop Outlook from doing this? He is using Outlook 2000 on an XP machine with SP3. Much thanks!
