okay this is what i want and maybe it doesnt exist.

i want to make a backup image of my main machine everything on my main drive and back it up to a dvd but it has to be a bootable image. so if some thing happens to the drive i can put the dvd in and it reimages the new drive.

have tried norton ghost but the darn thing keeps failing on the second dvd keeps telling me its not writable or its not formatted no matter how many dvd's i try and they are brand new.

have tried acronis true image but it will only create that image to another hard drive it wont give me that option to use a dvd.

    does this sft exist ???

If the drive dies you'll be buying a new one.... I'd send the image to another drive.. Pop dead drive one - pop new one in - Boom all done.

I'm a little puzzled - I don't have a copy of 2010 installed anywhere, but 2009 is installed on my reference XP desktop and the ability to image to DVD seems to be available .....

    Screenshots from 2009 & 2011 below

I suggest you search the 2010 help file for DVD.

With Ghost, don't clone the drive, use the option "Partition to Image ".
