I am taking a graduate level class called Managing Information Systems. I have a problem I need to resolve and am clueless how to do so. An organization that has several thousand employees has software updates pushed out to their computers each day. Often this push leads to the computers "freezing" because all the processing power is dedicated by the update process. How can I give users a real-time 5 minute warning that the update process is about to occur and that it is not something they can opt out of?

I am NOT an IT guy and this class is required in to earn my MBA.

    Common sense solution:

Do the updates during hours the comps are not in use, scheduloed updates.

Why interupt the production of employees? To do so would be criminal as far as business management goes.

Obviously that would be best but people have their laptops locked up and off at the end of the night or they are at home.
    Any other ideas?

Scheduale the updates for the same day every month. Send reminder emails inadvance.
