    I use Open Office which is normally stable. Now, sice updating my PC to a new one with Win 7, I keep getting this message when trying to open by double clicking on attachments sent to me using Thunderbird. -

    "C:\Users\Richard\AppData\Local\Temp\Photo group Feb 2011-1.doc could not be opened, because the associated helper application does not exist. Change the association in your preferences. "

    If I save the document (this also applies to PDF files) to my desktop I can then open them in the application.

    Any ideas please what I have to do to change the association in my preferences and where they are?

    OO = Open Office :)

    Check that .doc is set to open with Open Office.

    I'm inclined to think this is a Thunderbird issue rather than Win 7.

    Thanks again for your help, it turned out to be a Tbird issue solved by Tools>attachment and deleting .doc entry and choosing OO next time I tried to open a .doc attachment
