I have Windows XP Professional installed on a AMD 1700+ system. When I try to install any programs (It used to work OK) the windows installer opens, asks the usual licensing questions, then when I click "Install ", the progress bar goes 75% of the way to the right then stops.

    Nothing else happens.

    Any Ideas?

    Thanks

    Hi HardlyWorkin
A belated welcome to the boards.
So sorry your post slipped by unanswered. Have you made any headway in getting this fixed? Tried emptying your temp files etc? Any chance we can get a few more system specs? You've got all excess background programs shut off?

My System is an AMD 1700+, 256mb pc2700 ram, asus a7v-333 MB (no raid), Maxtor 60gb 7200 ata-133 Hard Drive, Windows XP pro (without SP1).

I have read that the newer version of MSI.DLL may fix the problem, but I have heard that there are problems with SP1 so if there is a place to get that file without SP1 that might fix it.

I don't have any other programs running when I try to install programs. One was the drivers and programs for an Epson 1650 scanner, but I was able to install that one in Safe Mode. The Microsoft Keyboard program won't install in safe mode or regular, Administrator or any other user.

There are no error codes, the installation just stops.

    Thanks

I had a problem with Windows Installer a while back.

It turned out that it was a virus causing the problem. I tried a million different things to fix it (including format of the computer), but it turned out to be as simple as a virus. That might be the problem.
