I have a 2008 3-user version of Symantec's Norton A-V loaded on my desktop, renewed annually and updated as of 2 months ago to run on Windows 7. I just bought 2 new laptops for my wife and myself. They came with Windows 7 installed and also McAfee's Security Center, which I want to replace with Symantec's NAV. I have my original CD of the NAV program. The trouble came when I tried to install it in one of the laptops. That older version isn't compatible with Win7 and I wasn't allowed to proceed further. If I could get it installed, I'd be able to upgrade and activate the newer version. So how do I install it?

I've explored Symantec's Web site for support but can't find a solution to my particular problem there. I tried phoning them but they charge something like $35 for live phone support, and the e-mail query I submitted may not get a reply for up to 24 hours. So as usual I'm relying on good old Windows BBS for help -- how do I install a 2008 program onto a computer running Windows 7?

Norton's tech support sent a reply a little after midnight last night, according to the time-stamp. It contains essentially the same solution except that it's now for the 2011 version. I haven't used it yet, but it should work.

    Thanks for the reply.

It did. I downloaded the new version onto both new machines, installed it, and updated it. Everything seems to have gone well. Thanks again. :)
