I've been looking for a reason why the two USB ports in the front of the case won't work. In BIOS under Integrated Peripherals Option > OnChip USB Controller > [All Enabled] yet the front Ports are dead.
The Board is ECS K7VTA3 v3 (lovely purple colour) and has 2 Headers - USB2 USB3 and LUSB1 LUSB2 located adjacent to the PCI Headers.

I've tried connecting the two cable plugs from the front USB ports to all of these USB/LUSB headers and nothing works.

There are two USB ports on the rear panel USB1.0 and they both work. Any ideas?

I have installed in a PCI slot - a 4 port USB2.0 card and they work fine on USB2.0.
I thought it would good to get the front ports working as it's easier to plug in rather than at the rear of the PC. Neil.

Thanks for your Post, but the Manual I already have is more like the Motherboard than any on your link.
I'll wait and see if anyone else has an idea what might wrong.

    Neil,

    1. You do not mention if the front USB ports have ever worked,
    2. What does the Device Manager say? You will have to look at it (afterwords) each time you plug a front cable into a different header. And do shut down when moving cables. I know it is a pain but always error on the side of caution.

I would unplug that PCI board temporarily while you push/pull cables and "fiddle" in BIOS trying to get front ones to work.

    Neil,

The M/Board doesn't match your system specs so I'll assume the case doesn't either but is this also a self build?

Not all motherboards conform to a standard pin assignment (though this is less common nowadays). Is it possible that your case's USB fly leads don't match the MB's requirements?

I'm guessing you don't know all the plugs that get connected to the motherboard
OR, they are interconnected and your connecting them improperly
They should be properly labelled on the connections themselves
Don't be shy, tell us what the connections are labelled please
    D- D+ grnd etc....

Sorry, I did not mention at the start - this comp is not the one in my "System Specs "
I did not know if the front USB ports have ever worked.
There is no indication on the motherboard of pin number or on the relevant page in the manual I downloaded about 3 years ago.
I have 2 USB2.0 (1 is 4 port & the other 2 port) which can be fiited in rear of case and will plug into motherboard headers. The connector plugs are common to all - 9 pin - 2 Red 2 White 2 Green & 2 Black wires. Layout is:
    1---2 = Red
    3---4 = White
    5---6 = Green
    7---8 = Black
    ---10 = none
The plugs are dedicated by configuration and therefore will only plug in one way.
The 9th is blank - no hole.
I'm beginning to think that the M/B headers may be faulty. What do you guys think? Neil.

I've just connected the USB 2 & 4 Port cards to my main comp (Albatron KT600) and they both work fine. Conclusion = ECS M/B headers are kaput!

Thanks for all the replies, but I'll mark this as 'Resolved'. Goodnight. Neil.

Don't suppose you tried checking which way around the connector was on the header did you? xD

Thanks Lukeno1, I am satisfied that the two headers on the M/B do not work. I have a PCI card installed which has 4 external and 1 internal USB2.0 ports and that works fine as USB2.0.
There are two ports on the rear panel which work OK as USB1.0.
I was trying to see if I could get the front of case two port unit to work.
As I stated previously, I tried two separate USB units and they work on my main comp sweet as, but do not work on the ECS M/B headers and the plugs are dedicated standard type connectors.
There are no markings on the board - other than the standard layout for a header. I did the cardinal sin and reversed the plug and no smoke and still did not work!
I'll just use the rear case connectors end of story.
Thanks for all of you who read and made suggestions. Neil.
