I copied and pasted a tutorial for a program in Word. When I go off line, I can see the document like the way it was on the page.

In OpenOffice, when I save it, I can see it fine. When I'm off line, I can see the text, but each picture is blank.

How can I set Oo up so it will display the document off line?

    Thank you,
    Chris.

    Try:
    View > Toolbars > Tools > Graphics On/Off.

When I go there, I click on it. Nothing tells me if it's on or off. Just says, "on/off" each time I click it.
How do I know if it's on or off?

    Does no work.
Your suggestion takes at least an hour and a half. Was hopping to find an easier way.

Despite their advertising, Open Office is NOT compatible with MSWord. If they have an opposite view, I'd be happy to hear it.

My wife is the secretary of a local knitting group and several members decided to go with Open Office because it was free and promised interchangeability with MSWord. Wrong! Every message we've received from the Open Office users has been unreadble in Word 2003.

We've told all the group members to convert anything they send to the membership to .pdf format. At least we can download them so they're readble.

I am not an expert in either word processor but I do know that you can interchange fairly well between the two if you use the .doc (not .docx) format.

Converting to .pdf seems a waste.

One way I got mine to work in a different situation from this was to save it in the format of the version of Word you have. For me, using XP, when I save an Openoffice file, I'd chose to save it in, "Microsoft Word 97, 2000, XP ".
That way was the only way I could see anything.

It is true tho, it's not like they say it is.

    Chris.

Check the OO Options for how to handle embedded images.
