1GB Kingston only shows 512MB

    Hello. I have a problem with RAM. i had before 512mb(2x256mb) and when i put 1gb kingston ddr400 and now only shows total 1GB.. What could it be ?

    Please provide the make and model number of your motherboard and the make and type of the new Ram you are trying to use.

    Not my area of expertise but from pcupgrade.co.uk

    This would imply that each slot can only use 2 banks, hence 2 of your 4 are missing.

    Go to your supplier and try to exchange for the correct type of memory (nb your motherboard supports a maximum of 1GB per slot).

    Crucial is a great place to start when thinking about upgrading your computer's memory.

    Short of exchanging the stick or living with 512Mb there's nothing you can do.
