Will my Inspiron 531's board flash to the BIOS that it was based on? (see my system specs) I'm aware that the IDE socket adaptor has been removed as well (the position of it is still there fine), and as such, could I actually add a new connector in, and if so, how?

Is there any particular reason you want to flash the BIOS?

Regarding the IDE interface, bear in mind it may be more than the connector that is missing.

True, but there do appear to be some electrical connections on the board (if you google the board you can see them), or what look like connections to my untrained eyes xD

And I wish to flash the BIOS so I can either overclock the CPU, or use an AM2+ CPU - AMD's own overclocker didn't allow me to do anything either, and the BIOS has no option to overclock.

Personally I'd leave well alone, Overclocking won't give significant improvements for most users and even if the board looks fully populated for IDE there's no guarantee it is.

Anyway I'll walk away from this thread now, perhaps someone else will assist.

Trust me, my CPU is so limited I either have to upgrade it or attempt to crank it up a few notches - I've overclocked the graphics card and the fact that nothing changed is proof that the CPU is hugely limiting me.

Look for the Dell Service Tag and write it down. Then go to dell.com For the Home, Support then drivers and downloads. Type in the service tag if you can't the service tag click on find my service. Check for the service Manual. You find the maximum cpu your board can handle.

I know EXACTLY what the highest CPU my PC can handle is, which is the whole point of this thread. ;) I want to have a BIOS that either allows me to overclock, or use AM2+ processors. And I no longer have the Dell service tag as the computer is not housed in its original case.

If you get anything other then the Dell BIOS update for your specific hardware, chances are it won't 'flash', or if it does will 'break' some functionality.

Damnit, ah well, guess I'm going to have to buy a new CPU then.
