Resolved question about defrag and other applications

    I am thinking of trying one of the defragmenter apps instead of the disk defragmenter on windows. Now in your opinion should I switch to a different defragmenter app? If that is the case then what app is best.

    Also is there an application for the hard drive that shows where most of the space is being used. For example the hard drive properties tell the amount of space used and space free. I want it more detailed. Instead of just telling me how much space is being used, I want to know which file or folder contributes to the total space used.

    Hi merlinone. One of the most popular and free disk defragmenters on the Internet is Auslogics Disk Defrag.

    I use this program on all of my clients computers and have never had a problem with it.

    For a more detailed explanation of how much disk space folders are taking up on your harddrive try the program Folder Size.

    If you want to waste your money, be my guest. Here's a better way

    There's nothing wrong with Windows 7 defrag utility, it works in the background and does a good job.

    I know... people want to look at these small colored blocks being moved around and say "WOW, how cool is that! ".

    As for your other question, Download Disk Usage v1.34

    Extract du.exe to your \Windows directory.

    The command syntax is shown on the page above.
