my internet was issues acouple nights ago, so i shut down my computer. I must have hit update shutdown because when it started shutting down it started installing vista update (i think it was a service pack). The screen prompted me that this update could take a few hours and that the computer would turn off and restart many times so, since it was late decided to go to sleep. When i woke up in the morning i found the computer in boot with the msg

    !! 0xc01001d !! 9493/98265 (\registry\machine\components\deriveddata\...)

since then i have restarted the it many times and it always stops at a different number (the 2nd half of the ratio is always the same but the first half stops at what seems random numbers) i have tried things such as start in safemode, last known good configuration nothing will load windows it continues to give me the error message. I have dual booted this computer with windows xp, XP works fine and has no issues also allows me to access files on the vista side and save what personal information i have on the vista side. I'm at a loss on how to recover my vista (the computer did not come with a vista cd it is an "ACER ASPIRE M1500 desktop ") if there is any more information i need to post let me know. I am also in posestion of a bootdisk and have downloaded the program easyBCD 2.0

It mentions the registry, see if you can run a System Restore.
Here's where it goes to System Restore
You can also run a System Restore from "Safe mode with command prompt" if you can get to that.

Edit: You might need to intermingle those instructions with the bootdisk you have.

The computer did not come with a vista cd, and windows does not load. I have previously tried to do a system restore and it failed it gives me the same error message. The computer will not get past trying to loading windows vista

If you have tried a System Restore or other possible options, you will need to let us know.

If the manufacturer doesn't supply a Windows disk, you will have limited options for repairing it (although you were able to try my suggestion of running a System Restore). They generally just allow you to do a "recovery" back to the factory installation.

A possibility might be to "put back" a previous version of the registry, but I generally shy away from that, it probably won't work. I back-up the data, reinstall the OS and then put the data back.

Have you installed both Operating Systems on the same hard disk?

If you have backed up your important data, I suggest doing a "recovery" to the Acer backup or going to the original factory system. Check what options you have in their instructions/manual/User Guide.

If you want to try and get past their "no disk supplied ", you can try if you like, it will add to your experience level.

I have tried system restore but again it try's to load windows still. There is no factory restore because it still tries to load windows before it does anything. yes i have them on the same harddrive BUT i partitioned the hard drive and put xp on a completelly differnet partition

Read about the boot up options in your manual.

Since it took less than 15 minutes for you to reply to my last post, I don't think you are following my suggestions.

Start by reading in the manual.

Ummm...have you deleted the Acer/reinstallation partition from your hard drive?

I have done all that you have asked and it does not take that much time to do since the computer will not get past the windows loading screen. The only thing i have not attempted is too read the user manual front to back. sorry if i seem ignorant but i am attempting to follow your instructions. i have no read the manual on how to start a factory reset and it does not apply to be since i dont get the windows logo. I also didnt delete the partion with the backup information all i did was make a new one

the reason i couldnt find it was because vista drive was faulty. I was able to use the boot disk to activate the hidden partition( the one with all my backup files ) after that i was able to do the factory reset. and i would call this one resolved thank you for the suggestions.
