I have an Aspire ZG5 that doesn't have a dvd drive or a recovery cd. I was using the e-recovery to make it like new when I got this message missing OXF0000005. THEn I tried re-doing the process and I get a message saying missinng NTLDR.

I tried using a usb to fix the problem, but I am not an expert in computer and I need help. Please remember this computer doesn't have a cd/dvd drive or a recovery cd. That's why I tried a usb but the explanations were too complicated. Can anyone help me?

    Thank you.

    Welcome to BBS,

Using a usb flash drive is the best fix I know of.

Unless you can get to the Recovery console and run a Start up repair there is only one other way I know of and that is to get an XP disc and an external CD/DVD drive to run it from.

I suspect that your recovery partition is corrupt or it would not have messed up the bootloader.

Was this the guide you have been trying to use?

Another option would be to buy an external floppy disk drive and make a boot disk that you could use in it to boot into windows. Your bios would have to support booting from it but my guess is that it probably does. Can't guarantee it though. You can buy one for $15 - $20 dollars.

You can download what you need to make the disk here.

    http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm

Scroll down toward the bottom of the list to where it says "XP Quick Boot Diskette" and click on the link to the right of it that says xpquick.exe. The link that says read.1st explains how to make it, but basically, all you need to do is download and save the file. Then put a new floppy disk in the floppy drive. Double click the file you downloaded the drive will write the disk for you. You can do this on any computer that has a floppy drive or, if you can't find one that has a floppy drive, plug in the external drive and use it. Only problem I can see that you may run into if you use the external one for this is if windows would designate a drive letter other than a for the drive. For this to work, the floppy has to be the a: drive. Not sure how Windows handles external floppy drives.

Assuming you do this, all you should have to do is plug the drive into the laptop with the boot disk in it, go into your bios and set it to boot from the drive and reboot. If all goes well, it should boot into Windows and you can work on a permanent fix for the problem while in Windows.

This boot disk is essentially the same as the one that markmadras linked to except that it's all contained in an image file and runs on a floppy.

If you want to try using a usb flash drive, rather than having to purchase a floppy drive, the page he linked to would be the way to go.
