    Hi,

I have downloaded an old movie in .avi format. When I play it in Windows Media player 11, the dialogue is in English, but foreign subtitles are displayed even though all the Play\Audio Language Tracks\Defaults are set to English (United States) [us-en] and the Play\Lyrics, Captions and Subtitles are set to Off. In addition, the WinXP Pro\Start\Control Panel\Accessibility Options \Use ShowSounds is not selected.

There is only the one .avi file with no other separate sound track files.

I am using Window XP Professional with System Pack 3, and Window Media Player version 11.0.5721.5280.

Does anyone out there have the solution to this problem or know if it is unsolvable?

    Thank you in advance,
    Frank

Its possible someone pointed a camera at the movie screen with the titles there. That means they are embedded and can't be removed.

Thats called 'hard coded' subtitles. They are now part of the actual film, you can't do anything about it, except to crop the sub-title area out of the film,
