I use Thunderbird on my desktop computer. I back up the desktop on an external hard drive. Can I use my laptop to access my old messages from the external hard drive when I travel?

Or just configure the laptop TB & Desktop TB with the identical email account and set them to "Leave messages on server ". That way, the laptop TB will be able to download all messages and so will the Desktop.

And, make sure that all messages are left on the server. I am using Tbird portable, which is installed on a thumb drive.

My thumb drive, in my computer indicates that profile info is in this path: G:\PortableApps\ThunderbirdPortable\Data\profile. The contents of the profile folder are the same as the contents of the xxxxxx.default folder of the Thunderbird profile. You should be able to copy the contents of that folder on your hard drive to the profile folder mentioned above.
Personally, I don't do this, as I wish to have only one account in the Portable folder, and, for security, I don't save any passwords.
