Recently I have been having the following issues with Excel 2007 which I am running on an HP TouchSmart computer. It is a wireless setup.

The Excel workbook tabs have decided not to oblige! I'm not sure what I might have done since I have been using this program for years without any problems. I haven't tattempted anything different. The tabs to the left of the open workbook function as they should but the ones to the right are greyed and unresponsive.

Another problem I'm having is that sometimes I cannot select an individual cell. When I select a new cell, all the cells between the one originally selected and the new one are all selected as a block (highlighted)

I thought it might have been an issue with my mouse but changing it has not resolved the problem. Batteries in the mouse and keyboard have also been replaced.

This is very frustrating and I would appreciate any/all suggestions.

Many thanks and Happy New Year to all.

    Cheers

Welcome to WindowsBBS - and a Happy New Year to you too :)

I think your first step should be to Repair Office - some corruption may have crept in to the program.

Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs (XP), Programs & Features (W7)

Highlight Office and Select Change - you will then have the option to Repair the installation.

BTW - does this issue arise on all workbooks or on a specific workbook?

That was quick! Thanks for responding.

I didn't repair Office 2007 (didn't know how but now I do ... thanks to you) but I did uninstall and reinstall Office 2007 with no luck.

I have had these issues with two files only so far.

I've been going to bed optimistic that all will be well in the morning but unfortunately no such luck so far. But one lives in hope.

    Cheers

If the issue arises with only 2 workbooks (so far) and others are OK - if you save the workbook under a new name does the issue remain?

If the issue remains copy the contents of the workbook to a new workbook and see if the issue remains.

    The workbooks may be corrupted.

    Excel 2007 Issues - Solved

Saving the files under a new name did not make any difference and neither did copying and pasting the contents to a new workbook.

But something happened accidentally which has corrected these issues.

Maximising the window solved the workbooks tabs issue. Now all the tabs are responsive. Other files which did not exhibit this problem seem to be OK even when the window is not maximised. So I'm not sure why just 2 files should exhibit this quirky behaviour while others don't. Maybe I unwittingly did something to cause the problem and the file carries this command with it like AutoCAD does. Anyway, being able to access the tabs is such a relief and if certain files want to be temperamental, who am I to question it? However, you might have the answer.

The second issue is also now solved ... again, accidentally. One right click of the mouse broke the pattern of multiple cells being selected when only one was needed. Still don't know what caused the anomaly in the first place but at least now I have a solution.

Thank you so much for responding to my query. Hope these solutions will help someone else before they start to tear their hair out.

    Cheers

Glad to hear that you found a solution - not that I understand how maximising would resolve the issue.

On a re-read of your first post the cell highlighting issue is reminiscent of a sticking Shift key.
