I have a wireless network that my family and a neighbor share. Recently I discovered in windows media player (on my computer) a library of songs that belong to the neighbor.

I want people to be able to access our network but do not want to have them share files. I am running windows 7.

Was hoping you could advise me and perhaps help me beef up network security. I use 64 bit WEP presently.

Although I have decent computer skills, I am not very knowledgeable when it comes to networks.

Your time and advice is truly appreciated!

    Thank you in advance.

It's pretty much the same for Win 7 as it is for Vista except to get to where you turn on password protection (step #6 in the Vista directions), rather than scroll down to see it, look at the left pane in the window and click on "change advanced sharing settings ". However, you can just do as the other article says and type file sharing in the search box in the start menu and it takes you to the same place.

If you don't share files with other computers in the house, you can just turn it off (might want to do that on the other computers too). If you do share files at home select the password protection option. However, if you do this, anybody who wants to connect to your computer will have to have a user account and password on it, to be able to do so. If you read the paragraph above where you turn it on, it will tell you this.
