New HP running Win 7 64-bit Home Premium OS.

No matter what I do, whether it is a local printer, or one on the peer network, I cannot print with the new HP computer.

I have followed all their diagnostics and supposed repair methods, yet not a single change.

I have checked services and the Print Spooler is running fine.

Has anybody had this problem and, if so, how did you fix it?

What are some of the make and model numbers of the printers?

What happens/doesn't happen when you try to print?

Print problems from Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit

    Hi, Steve,

My wife's PC is a brand new HP pavilion 6110t, with 3 GB RAM, Win 7 64-bit Home Premium OS, Office 10, and very few other goodies, since we bought it at the end of November, beginning of December, then let it sit for about a week and a half before I assembled it. When I remove or insert a USB connector, it acknowledges with the usual beep tones, so it's clear that they are connected properly inside.

All printers are HPs. One is an old HP LaserJet 4L, which is connected directly to the new HP computer. The second is an HP Business Inkjet 2550. There is an HP color LaserJet 2600n. Last one is an HP Inkjet F2480 - multifunction which does scanning, copying, and printing. Only the 2550 is connected by Parallel; the others are all USB connections.

The last three are attached to other desktop PCs, and everything is on a peer network of both hard wire (RJ-45) and WiFi (FiOS).

The old Deskpro that was in the same spot had no problems printing from any of the above printers. The strange thing is that in most cases, this new PC can 'see' the printers, and allows me to install them, but that is where it stops. If I even try to print a test page, from Windows, it sits in the queue and goes nowhere.

All printers are set to share among all computers here.

I have a eMachines running Win 7 - upgraded from Vista. There are still two Deskpros in the same room. Downstairs is an Acer Aspire 5920 laptop, which prints to all, and I just got a Dell netbook, which I believe will also print to the four printers.

It makes no sense. I have checked, over and over, the Print Spooler in services, and it works fine. HP did its troubleshooting and downloaded a utility to try to fix this, but it simply ends up in a loop, restarting over and going back to its task, then restarting, and so on.

I am completely at a loss, and will probably try to get HP to make a house call, since we bought their support with the machine. But I won't have time for that until after the holidays, and my wife - it's her machine - needs to be able to print things like mailing labels, and create holiday cards, and the like.

Do you have any ideas on how to help us? I sure hope so.

Thank you very much, Steve. And Happy Holidays to you.

You may have already checked this but is the printer set as the default printer on your wifes machine. (Check in Control Panel> Devices and Printers)

Hope you have a great Christmas.

Yep! The 4L - directly connected to her PC - was originally set to Default. Each one, in its turn was, too. All of them are set to share, as well.

    Thanks, Mark.

One last idea before Christmas, try uninstalling the printer and then downloading and reinstalling the drivers. Check to be sure the driver matches the OS on the PC and is for 32bit or 64bit accordingly.

Print Problems for 64-bit Win 7 and HP Printers and PC

I will certainly try that too, and let you know how it goes.
    Thanks again for the advice.

    Happy Holidays,

Checked Compatibility and all should work fine.

I spent a long time checking to be sure, and all printers are compatible with Win 7 64-bit Home Premium Version. In addition, the system seems to have problems reading memory cards when placed in the proper slots on the faceplate of this new PC from HP.

We paid for a two year home service contract, and need to know how to get HP to honor that contract. What will work best, IMHO, is to bring a new PC of the exact same model, checked carefully by the factory, and simply swap out the hard drive from this one that doesn't work right, to a new one that does work right. That should do it.

Does this make sense to you folks?

Thank you all very much and Happy New Year!

Most probably not, the hard drive has all the drivers on it so if it is a driver problem it won't change anything. This will only work if there is some other fault on your existing PC.

As this PC has some problem with it's memory card reader there might be some problem with the USB drivers.

    USB and other problems

What gets me ticked off is that we paid extra for the two year house call coverage from HP, and instead of HP getting involved in helping us, they have all of a sudden begun acting like Dell - totally uninvolved in resolving this issue.

    Very strange ...

I have done some more hunting around for an answer to this and found many threads with a similar problem. My first discovery is that Windows 7 has drivers for your printer, at least the 32bit version does, so I assume it will be in the 64bit version. I would suggest you completely uninstall the drivers and then reboot the PC and let windows find the driver, you may need to put the windows 7 disc in the PC so it can search for it or allow it to go online. I read in one thread you should let it search on line for at least 10 minutes.

I have also read some fixes relating to the cable used and that it needs a parrallel to USB adapter but that is out of my field of knowledge.

Hope the driver suggestion will help. Where did you get the driver from that you are using?

If HP are reneging on their service policy you may want to threaten them with legal action should they not come to the party

I got all drivers from HP themselves, when installing the various printers. But uninstalling then rebooting, then letting the PC discover the drivers on its own makes sense. As for the parallel to USB cable, I actually have one to use for the LaserJet 4L, since that printer didn't know from USB when they made it.

And yes, I will threaten legal action if HP doesn't show up. Dell had, in New York State alone, more than 15K actions against them, thanks to the now new Governor, Cuomo, as he charged them with bait and switch for not providing the support people paid extra for. So that actually might be fun, if they don't honor their agreement.

Thanks all. I will try to let you all know what the outcome is, each step of the way.
