    Hi all,
This is starting to become a pain.
NS7 will simply shutdown and unload without warning.
There is no repeat situation when this occurs that I have recognised.
I am able to restart it without any problems and the event may not occur again for the session.
It has however been happening more frequently over the last few weeks.
I am running Win XP Pro and do not have IE running (uninstalled? as per other tips from this BBS).
Anybody else had this problem or any answers?
    Cheers and TIA
    Graeme

    Hi Alice,
I just reinstalled NS7 over itself and that seemed to do the trick.
I did this as the jave came packaged with the full install file and I couldn't be bothered with trying to sort out the different files, if that's what you have to do, and on top of that my brain wasn't in thinking mode.
I guess that your anwer may be the solution.
    Cheers and thanks
    Graeme

    Hi Alice and anybody else,
It's back and it looks like something on Ebay Australia pages may have something to do with it.
I must qualify this by saying that I have no doubt that this is totally unintentional on their behalf and I hold them in no way responsible for this problem.
It may in fact not be anything to do with them at all but the problem seems to be occuring when I am on their site.
I have no idea what it could be but if anyone else has come across the problem any ideas would be appreciated.
    Cheers
    Graeme

    Graeme,

If I were you I would go to Control Panel Add/Remove Programs and Uninstall the Java 2 Runtime Environment, reboot, then reinstall, either by reinstalling Netscape 7 (making sure you include the Sun Java 2 component) or by downloading Sun Java Virtual Machine (JVM) installer from http://java.sun.com/getjava/download.html

It might help also if you post a link to the page that is giving you problems.

PS Ramona has some screenshots of Netsape 7 custom install you may find helpful, here:

    Hi Alice,
For some strange I have the following 2 listings for Jave in my Add/Remove Programs listings.
"Java 2 Runtime Environment Standard Edition v1.3.1_02" and "Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.0_01 "
I am guessing that the first may have been installed with NS6. I have already uninstalled NS6.
Do I remove both of them.
    Cheers
    Graeme

It would be best to remove both of them and start fresh with a new java install.

    Hi Alice, Tranquilo,
    Guess what.
    It's back again.
Thiis time I managed to remember the page and the link in the page that, on this occassion, caused the shutdown.
This, however, is not the only page on this site that has caused the problem.
So, I think it may be something to do with the site in general.

Here is a page that the error occured:-

    http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2074453015

Here is a link within the above that when clicked on caused NS to close down totally:-

    http://members.ebay.com.au/aboutme/yeahdone2002/

The link is the "ME" in this line which is the 7th bulleted item in the item description
"Please read my bidding terms & conditions in ME before placing a bid, thank you! "

I did as was suggested and removed and reinstalled java. (latest version from Sun).

I am at a loss with this one.

    Cheers and thanks
    Graeme

When I go to the second link I get an eBay page that says,

The coding on the page shows multiple Javascripts so make sure Javascript for Navigator is enabled in Edit Preferences Advanced, Scripts.... also make sure Cookies are enabled in the Privacy and Security preferences.

If that doesn't help then what you can try is to create a new profile, for testing purposes, since it can always be removed later using the Netscape Profile Manager (Start, Programs Menu) with Netscape closed.

Another option is to close Netscape then search for prefs.js and DELETE it. Also delete user.js, if one exists. Both will be in your C:\...\...\Mozilla \Profiles\ "yourusername "\xxxxxx.SLT folder (path varies- do a Find on prefs.js) A new prefs.js will be created when you reopen Netscape. Make sure you have your ISP settings handy since they will need to be reentered.

I was going to mention that earlier, seeing that you had Netscape 6 installed before. It's possible that your old Netscape 6 profile contained files that are causing the problem with Netscape 7.
