I have windows xp pro, and i downloaded a game but the computer is not abble to play it. it says THIS MACHINES GPU does not support Shader Model 3, which is required to run this game. The game will now terminate. I WENT and checked my video card drivers and they are. Intel(R) 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV Graphic Controller. CAN someone please give me a link where to upgrade this driver so i can play the games ????

    Hi dexiner1,
It looks like you're using the Built-In Intel® video.

Start here for updating your drivers: Intel Graphics Drivers

There's also this weasel clause on the Intel site: "End of Interactive Support Disclaimer
These products are no longer being manufactured by Intel. Additionally, Intel no longer provides interactive support for these products via telephone, e-mail, or chat, nor will Intel provide any future software updates to support new operating systems or improve compatibility with third party devices and software products. Google - 'intel 82845g & shader model 3'
If I read the graph right the your 82845 chipset provides no support for any shader models

    Uh, what did you download?

If you scroll the center box on the page it lists XP Pro and the box next to it says "Drivers ". There's only two available: .ZIP and .EXE.

Also, note that these drivers are from 2007.

Ski52 is correct in that your CPU doesn't support for any shader models "” it's too old for the newer graphics intensive games.

Your only option is to: 1) Buy a new computer; 2) Upgrade your Motherboard and CPU; or 3) Buy a video card that supports your game.

Personally? I'd go for the new video card. Just don't forget to disable the on-board graphics.

Hi I had the same problem with a onboard graphics card on my older desktop with XP Pro, it was too small ( 32meg) to run the 3D on my mapping programe and the webcam used to freeze, so I bought a 512mg card and plugged it in ( $69.00A$) ,
now everything is better and faster and everything will play,
    Happy as,
    Cheers Des.:)

    Hi Dexiner,

Just a few fast comments for you. What you have supplied is the detail on your "controller" NOT your "display adapter" (<-video) . This will most likely be chip-set based on your computer manufacturer and "model ". You need to provide specs on your system. Unfortunately, as explained by members, your chip-set controller, once Googled, explains that it does not support shader 3.0 or 2.0 for that mater. Could be dead in the water when it comes to graphic intensive games but someone somewhere may have found work around or substitute driver.

2nd: supply details like "name of game ". It may well require shader version 3.0 but may also have tweaks that can be enabled or modified that will roll back or use version 2 shader or disable shader all together via options/settings for the game.

Intel link, provided by jpChris, does offer a generic driver but it is always recommended to look for oem driver updates first, particularly if you are talking about chipset rather than separate/added video board. (Thank you jpChris)

Just some additional info for you mull over.

I believe Demon may have solution. Its your GPU - Graphics Processing Unit - that doesn't support the shader model. Getting a new video card that does support shader models may cure your problem. By adding a stand alone graphics card, you bypass the 82845 chip set video portion. I have an older something... 865 Intel board that I have installed a 512Meg ATI video card on, it will play anything I need it to. Also like Goddez1 days - search around for a game fix, you are not the only one out there that can't play this particular game because of hardware restraints......

An additional thought: Open your case, look at the Motherboard, and see if you have an AGP slot or a PCI-E slot (AGP slot is about 3" - 4" long; a PCIe slot is about 2" long). That will determine what card to get.

PCI-E cards were introduced in 2004, but mfg.'s had, like, a bazillion AGP MoBos to get rid of before they fully went to PCI-E.

So, check and see what you have. You can get either type of card for a song nowadays.

(p.s. Goddez — what the heck are you doing up so early?)
