    Hi Evan,

Thanks for the link. I read and clicked on other links, but nothing helped or related.

So (you're not going to believe this), I went back to the MS site looking for a "security update" and I was taken to a page that had some kind of fix, but I had to call (877)PCSAFETY to get the link.

Anyway, The first person I spoke to had to transfer me to someone else — this was after about 10 minutes of me explaining that the MS site told me to call (she couldn't quite grasp the concept).

Then I explained to the 2nd person the problem of trying to get a WMP10 Security update because it wasn't behaving and after about 15 minutes of me telling him the same thing as the first person, I was transfered again to someone else in tech support.

OK, so now I'm somewhere in the MS tech support system (no idea as to where in the system I was — coulda been Windows3.11 for all I know) and I spoke to "Tyrone" (in the Philippines).

He wanted to do a "Remote Desktop" (Easy Assist) to see what the problem was. So we connected and I showed him that going to youtube, playing anything, then going to WMP and playing anything caused a snapback from full screen to regular size.

After much exploring around in my system he unchecked "Allow Screensaver During Playback ".

I told him that I not only didn't have any auto screensaver checked in Display, if I wanted a screensaver I clicked on an old Curves&Colors shortcut on the Desktop.

Well, guess what? So far WMP seems to be behaving again! I hit youtube, clicked on a short video, closed out and went to WMP and the video played and stayed full screen!!!

This makes no sense. How can the "allow screensaver" option cause a problem when through all the incarnations of WMP from 6 to 10 (pre-virus and several reinstalls) I never had a problem?

Oh, well, after over 2+ hours on the phone I appear to be fixed.

I'll keep trying for the next couple of days to see if it really is fixed and I'll post back with a "yea" (Resolved) or a "nay" (I need to look elsewhere).

Cool. Its great that your issue will hopefully be finally resolved. :)

Looking through WMP11 I haven't seen an option "Allow screensaver during playback ". I am assuming that the option was only in WMP10? When you installed WMP11 that option wasn't present in the UI correct?

No wonder I wasn't able to help as much as I could have. If I would have known that the option existed I would have probably told you to disable it.

    Hi Evan,

    I never had WMP11 installed so I couldn't say whether or not there was a "Allow screensaver . . ." option. In 10 it's in Tools\Options\Player\Player Settings.

    That's not there in 11?

Just out of curiosities sake, how would you have known to turn off Screensaver? Nothing I've read anywhere has mentioned anything about turning it off: and even the MS tech had to put me on hold several times whilst he consulted with a Level 2 tech rep.

My mistake. It actually is under player settings in WMP11. I just wasn't looking in the right place. I've never had to disable that option since on every system that I have installed WMP11 that option has been disabled by default on the installation.

As far as knowing whether to turn it off or not I may have figured it out eventually but there was no gurantee. Obviously now I understand what that option does and if I come across this problem again that will be the first option that I will look for.

Yeah, I went Googling around and found that option in 11.

Still doesn't make sense, though, because on my BreakMe drive it's checked and I don't have (nor ever had) any problems.

I know now for certain that the problems I have (and had) all stemmed from the "bug" I got and all the tools I used to clean it out.

Oh, well, that's computing for you. Although, I'd still like to get one of those bug writers in a public square and make an example out of him (or, her)!

Anyway, I'm still "testing" and will for a couple of days before I mark this as Resolved; but, so far it appears to be behaving.

    Hi Evan,

Well, I spent who-knows-how-many hours today youtubing. I didn't clean the cache, cookies, history, or anything else and WMP10 seems to be behaving.

I'll mark this as Resolved because I'm not having a problem anymore.

    Anyway, thanks!
