I use IE8 and windows 7. I also use g-mail. when I try to use "send page by e-mail" or "send link by e-mail" it defaults to windows live. I have downloaded the google tool bar and used the wrench to change the e -mail default to gmail but to no avail.
Is there way to override this feature so I can default to g-mail?

Are you using Gmail's web interface? If so, I don't know if there is a way to make it the default. But, you can add the account to Windows Live Mail and should be able to set it as the default from there. So, until somebody else chimes in, have a look at this.

I am not sure what you mean. Do I enable POP and then add the account?

Enable POP email in Gmail and then add the account to Windows Live Mail. Instructions to do so should be there.

    send page by e mail

I enabled POP and added the g mail account and made it the default but it still goes to windows live mail.
at the bottom of the page I have crazy numbers and letters that make no sense.

Once you've added Gmail to Windows Live Mail, it should go to that. Look at the Window that opens when you click the send link by email, or whatever. In the upper right hand corner where it says From, it should say your username@gmail.com. If it does, when you send the email, it gets sent through Gmail just as it would if you were emailing it from Gmail's web page. You are using Gmail but accessing it from Windows Live Mail instead of your web browser.

If you open Windows Live Mail, you should be able to access all of your Gmail stuff without having to use your web browser. If you don't like doing it that way, wait a bit and maybe somebody else will have something else for you but I myself no of no other way to make it the default email client.

You can go to (tools- option- application scroll down to malito )and change that in firefox. In internet explorer (tools internet options- programs- E-mail)and change to which mail you need.
