Resolved IE 8 Problem

I installed IE 8 2 days ago and then received notification about updates. I now have a problem where the computer does not want to turn off. It just displays the last window before shutdown and I have to hold the power key to turn it off. Any idea what is going on here? I had a perfectly functioning computer before IE 8.
The updates were:
KB 976662
KB 981332
KB 971961

You can always remove those updates via add-remove pgms & see if problem goes away.

Judging by the updates you're using XP (it would have helped if you included this in your post ).

Have you worked your way through Advanced troubleshooting for shutdown problems in Windows XP and if so with what results?

FYI, I uninstalled the 3 updates and my laptop now works perfectly again.
I have hidden those updates so I so not install them again by mistake.

Please mark your thread as 'Resolved'.
