At work we currently have hundred meg switch all round..

we have bought gigabit switch. to be replaced

we also have wireless access points scattered around connected to hundred mb switch.

If i connect the wireless access points to 1gb ports rather than 100mb at present. would that make any difference?

Gigabyte switches are backward compatable. Consider though that investmnent in a gigabyte switch won't pay off unless/until the clients connected to it have gigabyte network adapters. And ALL the throughput via wifi will be limited by the APs mode and settings.

I may just see how it goes and buy POE switches for the wireless.

Understood. No matter what you do nthough, the wifi clients will always be limited to whatever mode the AP uses (b,g,n rates).
