    Hello All -

I've recently taken over a volunteer secretary position. I'm using the lodge's computer on a daily basis and there is one thing that is driving me crazy and I don't know how to fix it on my own :( . . . so, here I am asking for your help.

The Back and Forward buttons work just fine in Internet Explorer when there is something to go back and forward to. However, the buttons aren't highlighted and don't work on or for anything else. I'm using alot of time and frustration having to work around this. Is there a way to get the buttons back among the living? The OS is XP Home if it helps.

    Many thanks.

    Mike

I'm having trouble understanding the problem.

The Internet Explorer back and forward buttons are for either going back to a page previously visited during that session or for going forward to a page previously visited during that session. That's all they do.

Once you close that session of IE, when you later reopen it, both buttons will be greyed out since there are no previously visited pages during that session.

What are you wanting them to do?

I suspect indutch is referring to Windows Explorer - is that the case?

Let me try again. When working with more than one document in a folder it is sometimes necessarry for me to go from one document to another. On my computer at home that isn't a problem. On the one at the lodge, I have to close or minimize one in order to get to the next one I need to see because I can't use the back and forward buttons to navigate. Hope that makes sense. Thanks.

Well hopefully I've got it now :)

    Check in Windows Explorer ....

Tools > Folder Options - General tab under Browse Folders that 'Open each folder in the same window' is checked.

    Thanks Pete!

And once again, the Windows BBS community comes through. :D Sometimes the simple stuff is harder for a simple mind to fix than the complicated. Mark this one "resolved "!
