Virtual PC is Microsoft software that enables Windows 7 operating syhstems to run another operating system within the existing Windows operating system. No real security risk there.

I always right click on My Computer. Left click on Properties/Left click on Remote settings and take the check out of Allow Remote Assistance connections to this computer. Click Apply then OK. Then X out of all the windows. Don't know if it is any safer, but at least I know that I have to enable it to let somebody have Remote Assistance. I have it that way on both XP and Win 7.

Yep there is. I have only done a remote one time with a friend. That is why I always shut mine off. Of course a crook don't really care if they want to get in.

To do so via the Internet you would have to use trojans (illegal to do so).
To do so on a local network you would have to use a comprehensive firewall to detect who is trying to connect to the computer as well as network traffic sniffer/analyzers. There are also network monitoring software that can do more, such as Languard.
