I have Vista Home Premium 64 bit. Netflix stopped working saying I need to update Silverlight.

I downloaded new version but install fails. Tried to uninstall old but it does not appear in the uninstall list. Tried the MS install clean up tool. Does not appear there either.

Manually deleted folders for Silverlight and tried to clean out all reference to Silverlight in registry. Still no go.

Spent 2 hours yesterday with MS Support who gave up and scheduled me for their "research techs" to call me today. After 1/2 hour doing nothing different than yesterday they gave up and said their ownly answer was a clean OS install. Not an option.

No Silverlight = no Netflix ( all other streaming video services use something else that works so may need to terminate Netfix )

I guess if there is an answer it will need to come from someone who has resolved an issue installing. I get no useful error messages, no indication of conflicting software...nothing.

Any ideas most welcome!

When you searched the registry, did you happen to look for this key

D7314F9862C648A4DB8BE2A5B47BE100

particularly in the following location
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products\D7314F9862C648A4DB8BE2A5B47BE100

A few users from another forum had luck with the install afterwards

If that key exists, I would remove it and reboot, try the install again
I tried installing Silverlight on my VM and removed it

That key was installed but not leftover when I uninstalled
Do a search in your registry for it, backup anything your unsure about

I might work backwards if I can. :)

Look at what Netflix interacts with. Update or reinstall those. Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling Netflix? Do you have third party programs installed that could be causing problems?

Sorry, I don't know Netflix, but know how I would begin trying to deal with the problem.

Netflix is not a stand alone program...or it runs from Media Center or in a standard web browser using Silverlight as a plug in.

As for conflicting programs how would I know what is conflicting if there are no error messages when trying to install?

Not sure how that suggestion helps me determine any conflicting programs?

Removing the registry items did nothing to help.

So much for Microsoft who had a ticket open for me but seems when I replied to their last question they just deleted my email without opening it.

It is not relevant to the issue with Silverlight but...

I am not sure if you have noticed the level of unemployed Americans recently? Is Microsoft unable to find any qualified Americans to provide support to other Americans? Gates made his fortune here...why would he now shun American workers and send jobs out of the country?
