I've been Googling for a couple of hours now, trying to find out how to re-enable hibernation on my HP MS225 All-in-One PC (new in July 2010), but no luck.

Hibernation worked perfectly for me until a few weeks ago, but not anymore. At first it was just annoying, but now I'm getting to resent having to shut down and restart Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit) while being away for only an hour or so (for lunch, an errand, etc.), when I know that hibernate should be there and is what I want.

Nothing I've found on the Internet (I've tried all the usual suspects) will fix the problem. Can anyone help? Thanks!

You can try downloading a new net card driver, or up grading the one you have.it work for me all the time.

My network adapters are shown in Device Manager as:
    Atheros AR5007EG Wireless Network Adapter
    Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter
    Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller

Following your suggestion, I chose to update the drivers for all three, but only the Microsoft actually found an update, which I installed. I rebooted, hoping for a change, but nothing changed.

What happens when I click on Hibernate is that my screen goes black and the HD LED flashes as though it's writing to disk, which looks good, but the PC's LED stays lit, indicating it's still powered up, and then -- nothing further happens. If I move the mouse, the Windows screen lights up, offering me the opportunity to "Switch User," which of course I decline, and then I click on my user icon upon which I am back in the formerly active Windows session again. All this says that Hibernate is just not working.

    Any more suggestions? :(

How long have you waited after clicking on hibernate?

    Try this.

Go to Control Panel and select Power Options. Select the round button next to Power Saver, click on Change plane settings, at the next screen click on "Restore default settings for this plan ". Click out with the cross in top right hand corner. Now try hibernate again and waite to see if it shuts down.

    Anderson,

I've got about 75 Startups and 144 Services. I seriously hesitate to do anything that drastic just in the hope that Hibernation works.

    Mark,

Over the past couple of weeks I've waited for a minimum of a minute and a maximum of overnight. The result was the same (as posted above). When Hibernate was working correctly, it took about 30 seconds of disk writing, then the power LED blinked off and the PC was really in Hibernation.

OK, I did as you suggested with the Power Options, but I don't want to try a Hibernate right now because I've got a large upload in progress. I'll respond ASAP. Thanks.

    Mark,

That did it! :) The PC goes into hibernation just like before. Your instructions were the shortest and simplest I've seen in all my Googling, and they worked, unlike all the rest!

    Thank you!
